Selecting pH sensors for process control

Glass, reference and diagnostics: how to avoid chronic fouling and drift.

INSTRAVATECHNICAL ARTICLEFICTIONAL DEMO DOCUMENTDS-FL-210-ASelecting pH sensorsfor process control

The measuring cell

A pH sensor combines a glass measuring electrode with a reference electrode. The glass responds to hydrogen-ion activity and the reference completes the circuit.

Fouling and drift

Coatings on the glass and poisoning of the reference are the main causes of slow response and drift. Digital sensors store calibration data and track impedance so maintenance can be planned.

Mounting

Immersion, flow-through and retractable assemblies allow replacement without stopping the process. Choose by fouling tendency and cleaning needs.
