SIGNATURE LOOP

Follow the signal from tank to valve

Scroll to walk through a level control loop: the sensor reads, the transmitter converts to 4–20 mA, the controller decides, and the valve acts.

Tank

The process vessel. Level rises and falls with inflow and outflow, and everything downstream depends on knowing it.

Sensor

A radar sensor reads the distance to the liquid surface without touching the product.

LIT 101 · TRANSMITTER

35 % level → 9.6 mA

Transmitter

The transmitter converts level to a 4–20 mA signal: 4 mA when empty, 20 mA when full.

LIC 101 · CONTROLLER

PV 35 · SP 50 · OP 72

Controller

The controller compares the measured value (PV) with the setpoint (SP) and calculates an output (OP).

Control valve

A positioner moves the valve stem until its travel matches the controller output.

PIPELINE · LOOP CLOSES

Level settles at the setpoint

Pipeline

Flow changes, the level responds and the loop closes. The reading settles at the setpoint.

Reduced-motion visitors see the same stages as a static, readable sequence. Values shown are illustrative demo data.

Coriolis mass flow: tube twist
INSTRAVA Process Technologies | Process instrumentation and control (demo)INLET SENSOROUTLET SENSOR · Δφ ∝ MASS FLOW
MASS FLOW
35,000 kg/h
OUTPUT
12.0 mA
  1. Two tubes vibrate at their natural frequency.
  2. Mass flowing through the tubes twists them (the Coriolis force).
  3. Sensors measure the phase shift between inlet and outlet, which is proportional to mass flow.

06

TECHNOLOGY SPOTLIGHT

Mass flow, measured directly

A Coriolis meter vibrates its tubes and reads the twist caused by the fluid. The result is mass flow, density and temperature in one instrument, independent of viscosity or pressure.
