The resistance of a platinum element rises predictably with temperature, typically 100 Ω at 0 °C for Pt100.

  1. A platinum element sits at the tip of the probe.
  2. Its resistance rises almost linearly with temperature (Pt100: 100 Ω at 0 °C).
